Meri Sandlin, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Western Fuels Association (WFA) has announced her plans to retire in December 2022. Ms. Sandlin joined Western Fuels in April 2005 as the Dry Fork Mine Accounting Manager and has held the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager position since 2015. Prior to joining WFA, Ms. Sandlin worked in the coal industry in the Powder River Basin since 1992.
As CEO and General Manager, Ms. Sandlin continued to strengthen the Western Fuels Association’s legacy by initiating numerous service agreements to assist members of the association with coal procurement and railcar maintenance activities. During her term as CEO, Western Fuels Association delivered over 90 million tons of coal to its members, experienced two major coal plant closures, experienced the bankruptcy of nearly all suppliers, and overcame the challenges of the COVID pandemic. Western Fuels Association is positioned for the long term with firm commitments to provide fuel for electric generation for decades to come.
The board has created a search committee and will retain a search firm to assist in hiring a replacement when Meri steps down at the end of the year.
